Do you also have mountains of clothing in your closet and don't know if you're going to wear it anymore or actually want to throw it away?
Bring your discarded clothing to the textile recycling course and start doing something with it.
You will cut, embroider and sew on the sewing machine to create your own object or applied item. Play and discovery are paramount and in the meantime you will learn some techniques.
What you'll learn in the cursus Textiel recyclen?
You will learn to sew by hand and practice stitches on the sewing machine.
You will learn assembly, putting together and combining textiles and other materials.
You will learn textile binding and dyeing (tie dye), bleaching and repairing (Japanese boro).
You learn to make something new, your own artwork, out of something that is already there (your own discarded clothing, for example).
There are examples of sustainable fabrics, non-sustainable fabrics and artists who create works of art with textiles.
Course structure
The first 4 lessons we will collect textiles and practice hand cutting, pinning, combining fabrics and we will embroider. Japanese boro is a traditional patchwork technique for repairing clothes. Then we will bind, dye and bleach textiles.
In lesson 5 you will practice on the sewing machine, threading, bobbins and stitches.
In lessons 6, 7 and 8 you are going to assemble all the rags and materials. You will decide what to make, a tapestry, a garment, an object or something in between.
What do you need for the course Textiel recyclen?
- discarded textiles e.g. clothing
- other useful materials such as ribbons, buttons, string, an old bag, etc.
- voor het verven: een oud wit laken of een lichte katoenen stof
Is the class Textiel recyclen wat voor jou?
Anyone who wants to learn how to work with textiles will benefit from this course. You can work at your own level and you will be encouraged to transform your idea into a strong concept and work it out as well as possible into an autonomous work of art.
